Thanks for the info Sean, i can remember some of the 'old' folk who used to work in the big house talking about Knife Boards, but had never actually seen one in use, I will have to get one built and give it try as the results do look good.
Interesting. I have seen these boards in books but never really understood how they worked. I will have to try this. Do you thing salt would work are is it to soft?
Unfortunately salt is way to soft, you can always buy loose grits that are used on lapping plates, but I think playing about and experimenting is more fun
